Histories - Corporate & Personal
Corporate Histories: Every company has a history. That history tells a lot about the company’s character, impact and position in the marketplace. Most companies have their history in scrapbooks or clippings buried in file cabinets or in boxes. Some of them are finding it advantageous to put historical profiles on their websites, but nothing gives a sense of stability and prestige to a company like a book outlining the detailed sketch of its existence. A book is the ultimate business card.
Personal Histories: Every culture has a practice built into its social structure to pass down stories and acquired knowledge from one generation to the next. However, the fast paced existence of the last half of the 20th century steered our progressive civilization away from this practice. The trend is now being revitalized to recapture the roots of our individual heritages. Genealogy, personal histories, and self published recollections of individual lives and ancestors are becoming more and more popular. Genealogy has become one of the highest growth areas of interest in recent years primarily because of the Internet. More than any other hobby, genealogy relies almost entirely on sharing information. Family history comes alive when the more interesting details of individual family members are explored concerning their education, occupations, life styles, migration patterns, service to their country and community and interests.
We all experience events during our lifetime that become etched in history books. Where we were, what we were doing during those events and how they affected our lives make for compelling human drama. Their impact on each of us deserves to be recorded. Imagine reading your great, great grandparents account of living through the Civil War. That alone would be compelling motivation for your future generations, but even without a personal connection, every viewpoint of historical events is significant.
StarGroup has a proficient staff of writers and researchers to help relay your history and talented graphic artists to capture the perfect visual image in which to package that story.
Best Little Town in Florida
By Tom Mills
The history of Palm Beach Shores is a relatively short, yet colorful one. Just a few decades after Paris Singer, son of Singer Sewing machine inventor, Isaac Singer discovered and began developing what is now known as Singer Island in the 1920’s, A.O. Edwards founded the town of Palm Beach Shores. But no personality was more colorful and dynamic than John D. MacArthur, the man responsible for the town’s landmark Colonnades Hotel. Long-time Shores resident and mayor of the town he loves, Tom Mills has captured the heart and soul- the very spirit- of the town and its islands in his historical look at …The Best Little Town in Florida.

Rose & Henri
By Juliette de Marcellus
Juliette de Marcellus is a writer who pursued a career as a prize-winning music critic and journalist. Her writing has been praised for the depth of its understanding of European art, history and social culture. This understanding is apparent in the fascinating account of her parent’s life, which she sees as an adventure, a love affair and a sociological study. Miss de Marcellus was in a position to use her ability as a writer when she assisted her father in preparing his anthropological studies. Added to this, and her interest in music, was a talent for painting which she pursued under the tutelage of her mother, who was herself a talented artist. These shared interests gave her special insights into the unique personalities of Rose Gordon Clark and Henri de Marcellus and the world from which they came.

“The breath of StarGroup’s experienced staff gave our organization access to professionals we could not replicate in other firms, and at the fraction of the cost. The Gulfstream Goodwill 35th Anniversary Book idea was remarkable, as it will continue to educate the public as to what Goodwill contributes to our community. The Northwood Idea – 40 Years of People Helping People
“Northwood University is better today because we found StarGroup and its staff. StarGroup’s abilities to be creative, directed and accountable have been our creed since we started the University forty years ago, and it has really been the first public relations firm that has come even close to filling that capacity. The recent book that StarGroup published, ‘The Northwood Idea—40 Years of People Helping People,’ has been a great success in helping people know what brought Northwood from the beginning with 106 students to 11,000 today.”
Arthur E. Turner, Founder
In 1969 two young educators, galvanized by a vision of a new approach to higher education, and determined to meet the critical management needs of a rapidly changing world economy, dreamed of a college where America’s free enterprise system would be the fundamental philosophy … a system under which our country, and eventually the world, would flourish. Arthur E. Turner and R. Gary Stauffer left secure academic careers to make that dream come true. They called the dream “Northwood” and their philosophy “The Northwood Idea.” Today, Northwood University is a respected international voice in management education. It boasts three residential campuses in the U.S., encompasses the Margaret Chase Smith Library in Maine, fields a highly regarded international program, offers instruction for career adults at over thirty sites, and has an innovative master’s program which attracts students and executives from around the world.

The Kinney Road
by Jack Kinney III
Humans are unique in that in addition to experiencing life we are driven to re-experience it over and over through reminiscing sessions with others. We all have a favorite aunt or uncle who loves to entertain us at reunions with stories of the “good ole days.” In most families, these tales become part of the family folklore. However, if no one bothers to record them, they will eventually be lost forever with the passage of time after the demise of the key players. There is no better way to capture these personal histories and preserve them for all time than through the everlasting pages of a book.
Just the Two of Us
By Alicia Blodgett
“It is a pleasure to work with Brenda Star and her staff at StarGroup International. This is a group of professionals of high standards, expertise and ingenuity. My husband, Bill, encouraged me to put our story into words and I’m especially grateful to StarGroup’s Shawn McAllister for improving upon those words and inspiring me to write.”
— Alicia Blodgett
Bill Blodgett asked Alicia to marry him two days after they met and sail around the world on his yacht. She accepted his proposal and spent the next seven years on a “honeymoon” sailing the Seven Seas.
This is more than a story about sailing. It is a true romance of a newlywed couple's adjustment to life at sea and each other. Through 47 countries and 45,000 miles, we share their terror of a near dismasting and their delight of exploring new cultures. Sometimes witty and sometimes setting your pulse racing, what enlivens this true narrative is that the author freely shares her emotions and opinions from a personal point of view. She turns what could have easily been a travelogue into a tale of adventure, sometimes changing the names to protect the guilty!
