Author and reading advocate Brenda Star has been a devout reader all of her life. While on vacation several years ago, she experienced a vision problem. Suddenly unable to read, she was able to see what was on a screen, so she turned her attention to television for the first time. She was shocked to discover the enormous amount of violence and degradation made available to children who should be discovering the incredible world of reading. She set out on a new mission and compiled the book, 101 Reasons to READ to Your Child, hoping it would encourage parents and grandparents to help children discover the wonderful experience of reading. Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky purchased an initial 5,000 copies of 101 Reasons To READ With Your Child for distribution by the Kentucky Governor’s office.
